Project Overview

This module is a concept project based on shadowing experiences I have had with instructional designers in higher education. The hypothetical client for this concept project is an instructor at a medical school who is requesting support on updating their slide presentation to a more updated format that allows for learner engagement. The desired product is an asynchronous learning module that will be hosted on the course learning management system (LMS) and provide feedback on learner interaction and understanding.

The presentation I used is the Nurse Aide Infection Control from Texas Health and Human Services. In the same way that I would keep true to the presentation material provided by the instructor, I did not change the core content or flow. Where the instructor desired more interaction, multimedia content and knowledge checks, I provided suggestions for additional resources and incorporated them into relevant places in the module.

I used the learning objectives stated at the beginning of the module to guide the building of the course. Lessons within the module were grouped or split logically for organization of content.

Because the instructor desired for the content to be viewed in a specific order, I placed restrictions on the course navigation while still allowing the learner to track their progress visually in the side panel.

Periodic knowledge checks are incorporated throughout the module, with a summative assessment at the end. Learners have an unlimited number of tries to take the assessment but must score a 70% or higher to pass. The scores are reported to the LMS.

Outline - Google Docs

I created an outline for the course and grouped information as it would be arranged by lessons within the module. In this stage I outlined the text that would be included in each lesson, as well as navigation notes, interactions, and visual elements. I used Google Docs because of its potential for collaborative work in the design process with the subject matter expert.

Full Development - Articulate Rise 360

Once the course was outlined in full, I developed the course in Articulate Rise 360. The process went quite quickly due to the detailed outline I had created before. In this step I organized the information in a visually attractive and logical way, input interactive elements and built the summative assessment at the end of the course. This step of the process also involved optimizing the course for accessibility and testing the course all the way through for quality and functionality.
